Will There Be One Republican Legislator Faithful To His Tax Pledge, After This Session?

After reading the many new tax bills and watching the floor votes of so many Republican legislators; We are probably down to about a dozen or so lawmakers who can say they did not vote to raise or broaden taxes on Oklahomans.   Primary elections are set for just 5 weeks from now. Republicans will be watching their elected officials and several groups will be publishing the results of this session. Some lawmakers may have a difficult time explaining some net tax increases. ​The governor has already broken her pledge at the start of this session. ​   Last Summer, Rep. Jason Murphey told Sooner Politics that he has a 5-point test for legislation he considers.

Re. Jason Murphey: Sure! 

1. Is it a corporate welfare bill? 
2. Is it a new government program?
3. Is it a new government regulation?
4. Does it create yet another agency?
5. Does it create a new tax burden?

If the answer is 'yes' to any of those questions, then my vote is 'no'.
