Deficit Jumps 24% Under Republican Rule
The Washington Times is reporting tonight that the Omnibus federal funding bill passed late last month has exploded the federal deficit.Their headline reads:
The tax-cut deal inked by President Obama and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan last month has put a major dent in the federal budget, helping send the deficit soaring by 24 percent, the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday.
The $544 billion deficit projected for 2016 marks the first year since 2009 that the red ink has grown, and it powers the deficit back up over the half-trillion mark, where it had been for most of Mr. Obama’s tenure. Read the Washington Times story, here.
Deficits have actually been trending down a bit in recent years. But with the massive bill by Paul Ryan's congressional team (Cole and Mullin have been in the house leadership), every pork barrel project saw record levels of wasteful spending and record borrowing (from China and other global enemies) will be needed more than ever.
The Oklahoma delegation has had one noted budget watcher.
First District Congressman Jim Bridenstine has strongly rejected the pressure of his party's leadership..

Now the delegation sends out Senator Inhofe to mock Bridenstine and take most of the media flack for the others who voted our grandchildren into fiscal slavery. And Inhofe may well be the designated pinata' because Inhofe is the only member not facing reelection later this year. Conservative voters in Oklahoma are loudly decrying the failure of the Republicans to deliver on the election promises they made, to end the deficit spending.
4th Dist. challenger, Dr. James Taylor |
Rep Tom Cole |
District 4
Cole has already landed a primary challenger, as has Mullin. Rumors on the hill claim that Senator Lankford first sent a colleague to find out if Bridenstine was going to challenge for the US Senator seat which Lankford must fight to retain this year. When it was determined that Bridenstine is not seeking a senate run, Lankford evidently felt he could afford to vote against fiscal responsibility. In District 4 an educator and minister, Dr. James Taylor of Norman, is a declared candidate running on a platform of "Stop The Insanity".
District 2
2nd Dist. challenger, Capt. Jarrin Jackson |
Rep. Markwayne Mullin |
Ironically, Senator Lankford just wrapped up a book tour where he claimed the role of championing the fight to end federal waste.
Then he voted to fully fund the waste when he was confident that his senate seat was safe against a challenge from a strong budget hawk like Bridenstine.
