A night for honoring the citizen-advocates of Oklahoma |
It’s once again time to unite to recognize and honor grassroots activists for their hard work and dedication toward preserving liberty in our cities, state and nation. The Defenders of Liberty Grassroots Activism Awards is a way for grassroots leaders in Oklahoma to recognize volunteers who put in many hours of time and hard work to make our communities better and hold our elected officials accountable.
This is the third year for this event and it looks to be larger than last year. The institute designates 12 awards to grassroots leaders across the state and recognizes the accomplishments of activists from various organizations. This year the awards will be held Saturday, September 26th at 6:30 at the Crowne Plaza: 7902 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa, OK 74136.

Oklahoma's citizens lead the nation in advocacy and activism for change. Some of our greatest state reforms have come not from top-down edicts of the state capitol, but from citizens who either impacted the capitol or circumvented it altogether.
In 1991, Lloyd Noble traveled to Washington, to tell America how Oklahoma led the way in Term Limits. http://goo.gl/YJMJSw |
Historically our state constitution has been rewritten by motivated and organized citizen groups, multiple times. In 1990, it was Lloyd Noble who initiated the nations's first-ever term limits amendment. That modest notion was so resounding that several years later our legislators moved to expand it to all statewide elective offices.
Knowing that our citizens possess a special perspective, a group of citizen activists from across the state have formed an institute designed to honor the efforts and accomplishments of grassroots groups and individuals. The Defenders of Liberty is set to hold it's 3rd annual awards ceremony on September 26th. The formal banquet and ceremony will recognize activists in several categories.
Oklahoma's great political leaders have historically demonstrated the wisdom to connect with the passion, wisdom, and perspective of grassroots advocates. Rarely does a political campaign enjoy elective success without a large base of citizen activists. But those activists are not merely groupies of politicians. Instead, they are yearning for liberty, or defending the liberty which is under political or sociological assault.
